Dear Small Town Community Leader:
This two-and-a-half-day workshop is an all-inclusive educational experience that includes workshop materials, lodging, meals, refreshments, and southern hospitality.
We spend a short time on the first day learning from subject matter experts and professionals about the variety of assets already available to you in your community. They will describe case processes, assets, and funding sources that have successfully assisted communities in their development and economic growth.
That afternoon we break into smaller groups of 10-15 people and move into the hands-on portion of the workshop. Each group is provided with two facilitators and introduced to a hypothetical community similar to small towns in Alabama. Over the next day-and-a-half, the group will develop responses to a variety of common but persistent issues.
On the final morning, the entire workshop will reconvene, and each group will share their ideas so that we can all learn from each other.
Over the course of the workshop, you will learn how to work with a wide range of personalities and overcome barriers that prevent communities from seeing real economic development. You’ll learn how to use writing, drawings, and conversation to effectively shepherd big ideas through a complicated and strenuous process of project development.
