The Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau (DMCCVB) is pleased to announce the hiring of Melinda Dunn as president/chief executive officer. Dunn assumes the leadership role effective January 2, 2013.
As president and CEO, Dunn will be responsible for the administration, operation, marketing, and reporting functions of the DMCCVB and will serve as adviser to the Board of Directors. She will be charged with developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for the marketing of Decatur and Morgan County as a convention site and tourist destination that will ultimately generate and increase lodging tax revenues.
Dunn comes to DMCCVB from Decatur Parks and Recreation where she was the Historic Resources and Events Coordinator responsible for the preservation, operation and development of the Old State Bank and for the programming and promotion of “Concerts by the River” and “Movies in the Park.” In this role, she also provided grant/proposal writing services to parks and recreation programs, served as a liaison to Friends of Delano Park, and worked as support staff at Decatur Parks and Recreation’s events including soccer tournaments, Spirit of America, NAIA Championship events, and other activities. For the past five years, she has served as a board member of the Spirit of America Festival Board of Directors and as Festival President for the past three years.
“With 25 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry, Melinda Dunn brings a wealth of knowledge to the Decatur/Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau,” said Chairman of the Board Ronnie Dukes. “It was important that we find a new president and CEO who could continue the momentum our city is experiencing as it relates to the travel industry. Her prior experience will further strengthen and grow tourism for all of Decatur and Morgan County.”
Dunn replaces Tami Reist who recently resigned to assume the role of president/CEO of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association, a nonprofit, membership-based organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the travel industry within the 16 northernmost counties of the State of Alabama.
